Pouslbo ~ part 2

This busy summer town has a strong Scandanvian flavor to it.  That mxes well with the more modern galleries that dot the bustling week-end street:

the old...

and the new...

A visit to Poulsbo ~ part 1

Poulsbo: What a wonderful town! Ok, an editorial correction...Poulsbo is actually Kitsap County's third largest city. Poulsbo has a delightful small town feel to it. It has a rich Scandinavian history. That history is reflected in the color and structure of the down town area. I've been driving by this delight for months as the daily business activities were on Bainbridge Island. I had no idea what lie just a few streets from the road off the highway that I usually traverse. Yesterday I met a friend for her long over-due birthday lunch. Her choice was Cafe Luna in historic Poulsbo. Cafe Luna serves Mexican food and the food was delicious. We visited two galleries and a book store (of course). Poulsbo is quiet in winter but gloriously busy in summer. Definitely worth the visit!
A small alley restaurant that serves tasty food!
I love small book stores ~ personal service and a place to quietly read while deciding which book to "rehome".

Pike Place Market ~ Seattle

I spend most of my time on the "other side" of the Sound.  Recently I had a visitor from Boston and a friend drove us into "the city' to have a visit at Pike Place Market.  Thought this would be as good a time as any to begin to refresh this blog!
The market is filled with the heading aroma of fragrant flowers.  Magnificent bouquets can be had for relatively little money.
Fresh fish for the discerning cook!
Crisp, fresh veggies waiting to go home with you!
Sweet fruit to end the meal.

Hmmmmmmmm!

Elandan Gardens at the Seattle Garden Show!

One of my favorite garden design studios: Elandan Gardens builds Zen gardens ~ using the wonder of found organic matter (drift wood) as well as hand trained and cared for bonsai trees to create peaceful sanctuaries:

Seattle Garden Show 2010 - 4 - outdoor rooms

Ideas for dressing up the patio!  What fun to be able to make a patio a room.  I think there might be more available sunshine in California rather than western Washington in which to make use of this 'room' but it was still fun to imagine doing something like this....

Orchids, fortunately, are an indoor delight available to our homes!

On the Road to Seabeck Scenic Beach Part 2

Mild January temperatures in the 50's AND no rain bring out two kayakers to enjoy the water before low tide fully sets in and leaves them stranded on mud flats.

 Sail boat at rest...

In some parallel universe this must be my fishing boat...it is even the right color.  In this universe it appears to be owned by the Seabeck Pizza Parlor.  I hope they have wonderful pizza to make up for this cosmic injustice!

On the Road to Seabeck Scenic Beach Part 1

As so often happens, the road to the place I want to see ends up as interesting in it's own unique way as I anticipate the destination to be interesting/unique.  The road to Seabeck State Park took me over a wonderful view of the Sound as well an estuary that was filled with sea birds, ducks and even a huge flock of Black Birds.

Human and bird all enjoying the 52 degree weather and small breaks in the clouds that allowed the sun to shine now and then.

Exploring Key Pennisula

Could not get close enough to the ducks to verify their species but thought the blue boat surrounded by water fowl was just about as perfectly Puget Sound as it gets!  Then there was a home that had the Sound in the front yard with a car in the driveway and a boat parked in front of the car.  Also perfect!

Watching me watching him standing in the rain....

He at least has an excuse to be standing in the rain...Puget Sound is his grocery store.
